Writer’s Block

Should I have memorized
The way your hands fit in between these lines
The way your fingers touched upon every word
The way they traced every letter’s curve
Like…do you have something you want to write
In response to every word that I’ve said tonight
I don’t know what we’re writing
But it feels like something
And I won’t stop writing until I’ve said it all
So sit there and hear my voice rise
And fall
My tone slightly changing
With every line we add
Softening
As your words get stronger
And more assertive
Gradually, slowly
Getting to the edge of the paper
We take our time as we express our thoughts
Spelling out every little word we each say
Just to make sure we’re on the same page
Before we know it, we’ll have a whole story
A novel, if you would
Just reach out, pen in hand
Ready to freehand upon these pages
That I’ve saved here just for you
