This is a post about how to blog, how to start a blog, how to run a blog, how to be a blogger. Some of us have the desire to start blogging, but just don’t know where to start or how to stay consistent.
This is NOT where I come in. 😅 Please be aware, this post is mainly for entertainment purposes. And probably just my own entertainment at that, since I do not blog consistently nor intentionally, and therefore my blog remains hidden in the depths of the internet unseen by basically the entire world.
But anyway… keep reading for some DOs and DON’Ts to keep in mind when blogging.
Who is Your Reader?
When it comes to starting a blog, think about who you want to blog for. Are you blogging for people your age who might have shared experiences, like revisiting their childhood 20 years later when part 2 or 3 of their favorite childhood movie comes out in theaters?! Are you blogging for people with children, who are quickly reading while in the bathroom because they went in there to get away from the nonsensical retelling of an event from the school day? Are you blogging for people who are also bloggers?

Keywords and SEO
In order to run a successful blog, the consistent and intentional use of keywords is super important. Keep reminding your reader about what you are talking about. 🙃 So when they have just asked themselves, “Wait, why was I reading this?” You answer in the next sentence that they read! Remember, we are talking about how to blog. We could say we are talking about how to blog successfully, but it doesn’t matter if we use that word or not. It’s all relative and as long as you get started you are much more successful than the person who only thought about blogging and didn’t actually start a blog.
Another important reason to use keywords consistently when blogging and writing your blog posts is SEO, which stands for Search Engine Optimization. The more you remind your reader about what you are blogging about with your blog post(s), the more likely your blog will come up as a search result when someone searches those specific keywords. 😀 For example, if I write a blog post about how to make a carrot cake, but I never mention in my post the phrases “how to make a carrot cake” or “carrot cake recipe” or even “carrot cake”, how will someone looking for how to make a carrot cake find my post about how to make a carrot cake?! And omg, if you made it to this post because you were looking for how to make a carrot cake, I AM SO SORRY TO DISAPPOINT! But I do enjoy a good carrot cake recipe, so maybe I will post one soon!

Done > Perfect
Done is greater than perfect! When you think about how to start a blog, how to run a blog, it’s easy to run into the perfectionism roadblock. You want to start a blog and you want it to be perfect right from the start. No matter how much thought and planning you put into blogging, it won’t be perfect! There is no such thing as the perfect blog even if someone has been blogging for years and years. Just get started, just keep posting, keep practicing your blogging techniques, keep writing, keep learning. Or you can, you know, be like me and take months and months of breaks between posts and then just post some poems without any context to fill up space and make you feel like you actually blogged. And then suddenly, out of nowhere, like magic, write a whole post that is half satire, half informational on how to do the very thing you haven’t really been doing: running a blog!

Summary
In conclusion, if you’re thinking about being a blogger and starting a blog, but you don’t know how to run a blog, just keep these three key things in mind.
- Who are you writing for?
- Consistently use keywords about the topic you are blogging about.
- Just get started posting. Don’t overthink it!
If you made it this far, thank you so much for reading. Please leave a comment if you found this to be a helpful waste of your time. 🥴 Be sure to check out my other posts for random, totally-not-a-blogger content like poems or random travel pics. And if you were looking for a carrot cake recipe and still read all the way to the bottom, what are you doing with your life? 😅
